This doesn’t even need any words. Jewel absolutely nailed her version on ‘I Want It That Way,’ the 1999 hit song by the Backstreets Boys, and she was joined by a not-so-shabby Josh Wolf. Watch here.
As a diehard Backstreet Boys fan, I’m not always into those who try to cover their stuff — especially of some of the best songs like “I Want It That Way.” However, Jewel and Josh Wolf can 100 percent pull it off. The singer appeared on CMT’s The Josh Wolf Show, and took on the song during his segment “Guilty Pleasure Song,” and yes, even BSB has agreed.
“@CMT @jeweljk @joshwolfcomedy ha! Love it.. Can we say.. We want it Jewel’s way?” Backstreet boys tweeted on June 30. In the video, Jewel and Josh Wolf take on the song in full on white attire, totally perfect outfits to pay tribute to the white that the guys wore in the original video. You may remember, it was also parodied by Blink 182‘s “All the Small Things,” which came out later that year.
Jewel’s hat, combined with Josh’s white tank-white bandana combo was pretty much a perfect recreated of AJ McLean‘s look from the video, and overall their rendition is pretty damn good. Shout out to Jiffy on acoustic guitar! Oh yeah, you also get reminded that Jewel’s voice is freaking amazing, even when she’s singing a boy band hit song. These two can actually harmonize. And that ending is just genius!
Here’s a reminder of the amazing video that was “I Want It That Way.” Do you like Jewel’s version, HollywoodLifers? The Josh Wolf Show airs Thursdays through Sundays at 11:00 p.m. ET on CMT. And trust me, it’s hilarious. Plus, there already has had celebrity guests — including Darius Rutker and tWitch from Magic Mike. Will you be watching?
