The 2016 Presidential Election has just gotten bigger! New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has thrown his hat into the race! On June 30, Chris said he’s ready to be the next President of the United States of America.
New Jersey in the house! Governor Chris Christie, 52, known for running the Garden State since 2010, decided that the White House needs some Jersey charm. Chris announced that he’s now part of the 2016 Presidential Election. All those other candidates running for President? Fuhgeddaboudit!
Chris formally made his announcement on June 30 at an event at Livingston High School, the same school that Chris graduated from! The Governor, known for his love of Bruce Springsteen, his Dad Dance Movies and the Bridgegate Scandal, is looking to be the next commander in chief.
Chris came to the stage to Bon Jovi’s “We Weren’t Born To Follow,” and told his supporters that he’s the candidate who “tells it like is.” Chris said that “this country needs to work together again, not against each other.” He also touted his record as governor, how he passed reforms in pension and tenure, without having to raise taxes. Chris even dissed Hillary Clinton in his speech, saying that the American people tired of President Barack Obama shouldn’t hand the country over to her!
This is big news! Chris was once reportedly considered a top-runner to possibly be President, but his chances have been damaged by Bridgegate, reports the New York Times. A Fairleigh Dickenson University poll showed Chris with just a 30 percent approval rating in New Jersey, according to Politico. What’s worse — Chris only has support of 5 percent of likely voters in New Hampshire, while fellow Republican candidate Donald Trump reportedly has twice that!
Chris has a lot of work ahead of him! His first fight may happen in New Jersey. Much like how Donald Trump got into hot water by using Neil Young‘s “Rockin’ In The Free World” during his announcement, Chris might get into similar trouble. Though Chris’s came out to Bon Jovi, the New Jersey rocker played a Hillary Clinton fundraiser the night before Chris’s announcement. Whoops!
Chris Christie announcement soundtrack includes Jon Bon Jovi, who hosted a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton just yesterday in Red Bank, N.J.

The 2016 Presidential Election Candidates
At this point, it’s almost a question of “Who isn’t running for President?” Chris brings the number of Republican candidates up to 14. He joins fellow governor Bobby Jindal and former governors Jeb Bush, Mike Huckabee, George Pataki, and Rick Perry. Senator Rick Santorum also announced a 2016 campaign. Current senators Rand Paul, Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz are running. Business pros Donald Trump and Carly Fiorina are also in the race, and so is Dr. Ben Carson.
On the Democratic side, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is running for president and she’s joined by Senator Bernie Sanders. Former governors Lincoln Chafee and Martin O’Malley are also in the race. He may not be a Democrat or a Republican, but that doesn’t matter — Waka Flocka Flame is running for president, too!
What do you think about Chris Christie joining the race, HollywoodLifers? Does he get your vote?
