Beyond the final frontier! ‘Star Trek’ won’t be back in theaters until July 2016, but Trek fans have finally been given their first clue as to what to expect from the new film, with the reveal of the sequel’s title and the first image from the movie!
We’re still more than a year away from the release of the newest Star Trek movie, and producers have been tight-lipped about the plot, casting and pretty much everything else about the third installment of the sci-fi franchise. But director Justin Lin has just taken to social media to reveal not only the film’s title, but the very first image from the new movie. See it here!
Star Trek Beyond has officially been confirmed as the title of the third film in the series. While there’s not a lot that can be discerned from this tidbit, it will surely send Trek fans’ imaginations racing to figure out clues about the upcoming film. The picture also doesn’t reveal much, only showing a shoulder patch with the famous Star Trek symbol and the words: “Starfleet United Federation Of Planets.”

The Star Trek movies have proven to be a global phenomenon, as they have accumulated over $850,000,000 worldwide. Chris Pine, 34, Zachary Quinto, 38, and Zoe Saldana, 37, are all returning for the third film, where they’ll reprise their roles as Enterprise crew members. Idris Elba has been rumored to be the new villain, but nothing beyond today’s tweet can be considered official.
