As a proud supporter of the LGBT community, Ariana Grande, 22, was the perfect choice to headline NYC’s Dance on the Pier concert to close out Pride Week on June 28. She totally owned the stage in her epic performance, including an awesome mash-up of Whitney Houston’s “I’m Every Woman” and Madonna’s “Vogue,” and looked amazing, too, of course!
The fun, outdoor event took place on Pier 26 in the Tribeca section of Manhattan, and served as a fundraiser for Pride and LGBT nonprofit grant winners. Ariana looked incredible in a tiny black PVC crop top and skirt while rocking out on stage. For the show, she sang a handful of songs including “Break Free,” and a surprise Madonna vs. Whitney mash-up. And, seriously, the whole thing looked SO amazing! Be sure to check out the video of her performance above.
The timing of this year’s Pride celebration in New York City couldn’t have come at a better time: On June 26, the Supreme Court legalized same sex marriage in a historic 5-4 decision. This means that all states must issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, while also recognizing same-sex marriages from out of state.
“It is gratifying,” President Barack Obama said of the decision. “Today, we can say we made our union a little more perfect.” He concluded his speech confidently, telling the country, “America should be proud.” Of course, as the President noted, there’s still a lot of work left to be done in order to extend equality to all Americans, but this is definitely a step in the right direction!
