We have a winner! Quasi Modo, a hunchbacked mixed breed, has earned the title of World’s Ugliest Dog after winning a pet competition in California on June 26.
The world’s ugliest dogs gathered together at Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, Calif. for the World’s Ugliest Dog event, but only one could be crowned the ultimate ugly dog. Quasi Modo, a pit bull-Dutch shepherd mix with a slight hunchback, was awarded the top prize at the June 26 contest. Hey, nobody’s perfect, and everyone is beautiful in their own way.
Quasi Modo beat out all of her competitors in the contest that applauds imperfection. Quasi “epitomized excellence in ugliness,” Chief Judge Brian Sobel said. She had fierce competition from 25 other dogs, but 10-year-old Quasi Modo, whose spinal birth defect leaves her with a hunchback, took home the top prize.
She also earned a $1,500 check for her owner, which is likely enough to provide Quasi with more dog food than she could ever imagine for the rest of the year. Quasi Modo, who would likely never grace the floor at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, was left abandoned at an animal shelter before she was adopted by a vet in Loxahatchee, Fla. The pit bull-Dutch shepherd mix gets mistaken for a hyena or Tasmanian devil quite often.
“My appearance can be a little unsettling to some (I have had grown men jump on top of their cars to get away from me because they thought I was a hyena or Tasmanian devil) but once they get to know me I win them over with my bubbly personality,” Quasi Modo’s biography reads.
World’s Ugliest Dog: A Look Back At 2014’s Winner
In 2014, a 2-year-old mutt named Peanut won the grand prize, winning over judges with her wild white and brown hair, bulbous eyes, buck teeth and inflated belly.
However, Peanut wasn’t born this way. In fact, his appearance has a lot to do with being seriously burned as a puppy, which left him with a few bald spots all over his body. Poor Peanut!
What d’you think, HollywoodLifers? Is Quasi Modo a worthy winner?
