‘Teen Beach 2’ picked up right where the first one ended — three months later to be exact. The summer was coming to an end, but could the friendships last?
Summer flings are called “flings” for a reason, right? Well in Teen Beach 2, it was time for Mack (Maia Mitchell) and Brady (Ross Lynch) to head back to school and do everything in their power to make sure that wasn’t the case. So, how’d it measure up to the first movie?
To be a good Disney movie, you need three things: fun music, cute actors and a relatable story line. And . . . a school dance. Let’s just say, Teen Beach 2 did all of these, times ten. Fans get to see the real part of the Mack-Brady relationship once school starts, which includes other guys, actual work — and a visit from their friends from the ’60s.
When Tanner (Garrett Clayton) and Lela (Grace Phipps) escape from West Side Story and head into the real world, it’s safe to say they’re out of place — but there’s consequences. The film basically turns into the story of friendship and being yourself — two things super important to everyone, at every age. It also did have a few amazing moments that paid homage to the first movie — that West Side Story vibe, “Meant To Be,” and that red polka dotted bikini Maia wears. The costume designer told us on set that that was to honor just like Lela’s dress in the first movie.
With Ross’ hair flips, Maia’s swag, and the ’60s gang back with all that singing, this movie actually turns out very cute, and I can say, better than first. You’ll get the songs stuck in your head; yo’ll laugh out loud; and you’ll be really want to go to the beach.
