Well, at least she’s honest! Selena Gomez gave some very candid quotes about her feelings on the sound of her own voice. Yep, she’s the first to admit she’s not the best singer.
Selena Gomez, 22, sat down for an interview with Z100’s Elvis Duran, promoting her #1 song “Good For You.” During their talk, Selena got super real about her caliber of talent — explaining that she is “vocally not the greatest singer in the world.” Sorry, girl — but we beg to differ! Read on to see what else the brunette beauty had to say in her enlightening new radio chat.
“For this record, I wanted to find my sweet spot. I know that vocally, if you will, I wouldn’t be the greatest singer in the world,” Selena admitted. “But I know my strengths now.” Now, that’s the spirit! Don’t think the pop princess is down and out just because she doesn’t possess an eight-octave vocal range.
Regardless of whether or not Miss Gomez can make her voice whistle like Mariah Carey, 45, she feels fully confident that her next album will be her best work yet. “You know, I know that I can translate emotion and heart. And I’ve written more than I’ve ever written on any album for this record,” she added. “I have a lot to prove, but I think for instance, [“Good For You”] is totally my register. It’s kind of smoky and fun and sexy.”
Even if Selena’s vocal chops need a little help from Auto-Tune here and there, it doesn’t mean she can’t deliver an epic hit. Already, her latest track “Good For You” has pushed her bestie Taylor Swift, 25, out of the top spot on iTunes. Released on June 22, the fresh tune quickly climbed the charts and forced T-Swift’s “Bad Blood” to fall one spot below Selena on the Hot 100. #SorryNotSorry!
While Selena and Taylor are BFF4L’s, it means a whole lot to surpass Tay-Tay — who just might be the most successful female artist currently. However, we’re sure Taylor’s giving Selena mad props, especially because the pop-country cutie has already expressed how obsessed she is with Sel’s new song. We are too, obvi!
Fans flipped over Selena’s collaboration with A$AP Rocky, 26, where she sings about a steamy love affair while introducing Selenators to a more “adult sound”. The song is literal perfection and so is Selena’s angelic voice — no matter if she can hit those high notes or not!
