Hm. On the brand new season of ‘Big Brother,’ the long running series will see its first transgender houseguest in Audrey Middleton, but will the contestant be upfront about her identity?
On June 24, the 17th (!) season of Big Brother will premiere on CBS, and it’s going to be a historic season. For starters, Audrey Middleton will compete on the reality show, marking the first time a transgender houseguest has been cast on the hit. However, the other contestants may not be aware of Audrey’s identity, because she may not reveal it. Check out an introduction to Audrey video, and get to know her as she speaks for herself!
In this get-to-know-you video, a producer behind the camera asks Audrey to tell viewers everything they need to know about her. Well, to Audrey, that doesn’t necessarily include her transgender identity, because she doesn’t mention it in this nearly 9-minute clip.
“My name’s Audrey, I’m 25, I’m a digital media consultant and I’m from a little, charming town in Northwest Georgia called Villa Rica,” the bubbly brunette says. The producer then asks about her journey to get to Big Brother. “This was my first shot,” she says. “I’ve seen every season, every episode. And finally, this year, the little voice in me was like, ‘Audrey, this is your YOLO year, okay? It’s time to make your video and go for it.'”
YOLO, girl! Another factor which is said to have influenced Audrey? Caitlyn Jenner! Though Audrey is a self-proclaimed “super fan” of the show and has wanted to compete for years, sources close to her told TMZ that she decided to take the final plunge after seeing all the good which Caitlyn’s publicity has done for the transgender movement. Her transgender identity was not revealed by CBS in the initial cast announcement, but after TMZ’s report, they released the following statement:
Audrey Middleton is a Big Brother super fan who applied online, like many other hopeful Houseguests, and was open about her transition in the application process. It is customary for Big Brother Houseguests to share personal news inside the house, and Audrey plans to discuss her story with the houseguests in her own words during the premiere episode on Wednesday, June 24.
