Can you believe this? Rose McGowan got some incredibly sexist casting notes with a script and called out the film’s star for the gross demands. We’re looking at you…Madam Panhandler!
When Rose McGowan, 41, received a script to read for a new film, she found that it also included some extra “helpful” wardrobe notes for female stars. Rose was not happy with the sexist suggestions and decided to call out the film’s male lead, Adam Sandler, 48, on Twitter June 17. Let him have it, Rose!
“Casting note that came w/script I got today. For real. name of male star rhymes with Madam Panhandler hahahaha I die.” Rose tweeted while sharing the script notes. They called for women to wear a dark, form-fitting tank top that showed off cleavage (push up bras were welcome, of course), as well as tight leggings or jeans. What helpful advice that would totally help with understanding the scenes! We’re sure the men reading for supporting parts were also given such specific wardrobe notes, right?

Now, although Rose doesn’t come right out and name the male lead or the name of the film, there’s no doubt that “Madam Panhandler” is Adam Sandler. The actor doesn’t have a strong reputation for, shall we say, being progressive in his filmmaking. Just in April, he came under fire when a group of Native American actors walked off the set of his movie, The Ridiculous Six because of the film’s deep insensitivity toward both Native Americans and women.
The actors on The Ridiculous Six cited examples of disrespect such as “Native women’s names such as Beaver’s Breath and No Bra, an actress portraying an Apache woman squatting and urinating while smoking a peace pipe, and feathers inappropriately positioned on a teepee.” Unacceptable, Adam!
It’s understandable why Rose was fed up with the casting notes and decided to share them with the world. They’re absurd, but sadly not unheard of in the entertainment industry. It’s probably not the first time Rose has had to deal with demands like this when seeking out a role, and won’t be the last. Hopefully, her shaming Adam on Twitter will shed some light on the situation and make at least some people think before forcing these requirements on actresses.
