In honor of National Kissing Day, HollywoodLife.com has compiled all of the best movie kisses from decades of your favorite films! From ‘The Notebook’ to ‘Dirty Dancing,’ let’s take a look back!
Remember how you felt the first time you watched Ryan Gosling lift Rachel McAdams into the air for their kiss in the rain? How about the first time Emma Watson and Rupert Grint locked lips? Are you still trying to find someone to hang upside down for a kiss like when Tobey Maguire surprised Kirsten Dunst on screen? So many kisses, so little time!
A movie kiss can be all sorts of things, from weird and wacky to totally sexy and sensual. Since it’s National Kissing Day, HollywoodLife.com is celebrating some of the hottest kisses that have ever been featured in a movie. Some of these kisses will warm your heart, and others will have you longing for more!
First, let’s start with what I’m sure we can all agree was hands down the best on-screen kiss ever shared between two human beings. In 2004’s The Notebook, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams’ characters, Noah and Allie, spend an afternoon together after years apart. Their chemistry is out of this world, and you can feel the sexual tension between them just oozing out of the screen. When Allie can’t take it anymore, she finally confronts Noah about why they didn’t stay in touch. It starts raining as they argue, and just as Allie is about to fire something back at Noah, he leans in and kisses her before she can say a word. The kiss is deep, powerful, and it gets even better when Noah’s strong arms lift Allie up against his body. Swoon.
Speaking of incredible chemistry and kisses, let’s not forget when Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes perfectly portrayed a modern day Romeo + Juliet in 1994. In the film, Romeo and Juliet spot each other at a party he and his friends crashed, and it’s love at first sight. They desperately try to spend time together, but find it impossible. When they finally find each other, Juliet’s mother tries to steal her away, so Romeo pulls her into an elevator and they kiss. It’s magic.
Now it’s time to bring it back to the 80’s, when a little movie called Dirty Dancing came out and made Patrick Swayze an international sex symbol. Once their characters, Johnny and Baby, finally got over their awkward phase in the film, things heated up very quickly. During one of their dance lessons, they have a little too much fun while practicing to Mickey & Sylvia‘s “Love Is Strange.” Somehow they end up on their hands and knees, and when they meet in the middle of the dance floor they share a kiss. Unfortunately, that scene was cut from the original film — but that doesn’t make it epic.
Last but not least, let’s never forget the amazing kiss that Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper shared in Silver Linings Playbook. They spend the entire movie dancing around each other — quite literally in certain scenes — but it’s not until one of the final scenes that they finally get intimate. After the dance lessons have ended, the competition is over, and Bradley’s Pat has finally made peace with his ex-wife, Jennifer’s Tiffany is fed up with being his doormat and runs away. Pat follows her, only for them to come face-to-face in the middle of a quiet street a few blocks later. Pat forces Tiffany to read a letter he wrote out loud, and it’s to her — and it professes his undying love for her. Finally, they kiss, and the world stops spinning for just a moment.
