Caitlyn Jenner wants everyone to know how grateful she is for Laverne Cox’s support and love after the ‘Orange Is the New Black’ star praised her Vanity Fair cover. Caitlyn posted her sweet thank you note on Twitter!
When Caitlyn Jenner, 65, made waves by appearing on the cover of Vanity Fair for the first time as a transgender woman, Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox, 31, a prominent transgender rights activist, rallied behind her. Calling her brave and beautiful, Laverne told the world she was proud of Caitlyn for revealing her true self. Now, Caitlyn is thanking the transgender actress for her kind words over Twitter. Go girls!
Caitlyn took to Twitter on Wednesday, June 17, to give Laverne a special shout out: “@LaverneCox, you are fierce and fabulous! Your support means the world. Thank you for all that you do for the community. #TransIsBeautiful.” A powerful and gracious message from one inspirational woman to another!
In Laverne’s current cover issue of Entertainment Weekly, on which she’s dressed like a glamorous version of the Statue of Liberty, she stated that Caitlyn’s decision to transition while being such a public figure was a brave move — and hopefully a step forward for the LGBT community. “I believe Caitlyn will transcend this moment,” she told the magazine, showing her full support.
The best part? This isn’t the first time Laverne has shown love to Caitlyn. When Caitlyn’s Vanity Fair cover dropped, Laverne had nothing but supportive words to say about the reality star, writing on her Tumblr, “I am so moved by all the love and support Caitlyn is receiving. It feels like a new day, indeed, when a trans person can present her authentic self to the world for the first time and be celebrated for it so universally. Yes, Caitlyn looks amazing and is beautiful, but what I think is most beautiful about her is her heart and soul, the ways she has allowed the world into her vulnerabilities.” So sweet!
Caitlyn’s thank you to Laverne clearly struck a chord with her over two million Twitter followers, as it was retweeted over 7,000 times and favorited over 25,000 times! Support from Laverne has to mean a lot to Caitlyn. Laverne was the first transgender person to grace the cover of TIME magazine, as well as the first transgender person to be nominated for a primetime Emmy award. We’re rooting for these ladies to keep up their friendship!
