It has not yet even premiered and already ‘Astronaut Wives Club’ is being compared to ‘Mad Men’ due to the fact that both shows take place in the same period. However, the series creator is urging audiences not to be so quick with that judgement!
The much buzzed about new series, Astronaut Wives Club, will debut on ABC on June 18 and many are making comparisons to Mad Men. However, Stephanie Savage (whose work you know from Gossip Girl and The OC) wants audiences to know that even though her new series is set in the same 1960s time period as Mad Men, the similarities end there! Specifically, Stephanie says that her show is going to move way faster, so buckle up!
“We’re a limited series, so we’re only 10 episodes,” Stephanie told our sister site Variety. “We’re doing the eight seasons of Mad Men with each episode. We’re sort of marching through time at a much faster rate. I was a huge Mad Men fan, so I’m flattered by any comparisons.”
Okay, so we know it won’t be another Mad Men exactly (which is totally fine!), but will Astronaut Wives Club have any similarities to Stephanie’s other shows? While Stephanie said that she does enjoy writing for younger voices, she admits that she is enjoying working on and creating a more adult show. “I’m definitely in touch with my inner teenager and I hope I never lose that connection,” she said. “But it’s been a challenge and a pleasure to be writing more fully adult characters; to be writing about marriage, to be writing about adult female friendships. It’s been fun for me and some would say an appropriate evolution, given I’m not a teenager anymore.”
Astronaut Wives Club premieres at 8 p.m. June 18 on ABC. Are you going to tune into the new series?
