Oh no! Tommy Chong, the ‘Chong’ part of the legendary stoner comedy duo, Cheech & Chong, has revealed that he’s batting cancer again. This time, the ‘Dave’s Not Here’ comic has rectal cancer! That’s not funny!
No, not Tommy Chong! The 77-year old comedian, of half of Cheech & Chong, announced that he’s been diagnosed with cancer for the second time! Tommy, along with partner, Cheech Marin, 68, made audiences crack up with his comedy records and movies like Up In Smoke and Nice Dreams. But Tommy having rectal cancer is no laughing matter!
Tommy divulged this condition in a June 16 interview with Us Weekly. While attending the 826LA 10th Anniversary party in Santa Monica, Tommy said that, “I’ve had some medical issues lately. I got diagnosed with rectal cancer.”
That’s horrible! This is the second round of cancer for Tommy, who previously battled prostate cancer in 2012. This is so sad! Thankfully, Tommy is keeping a positive attitude about the experience — thanks to help with a little green friend.
“I’m using cannabis like crazy now, more so than ever before. I’m in treatment now. I’ve been – just the case either way, either I get healed or I don’t. But either way, I’m going to make sure that I get a little edge off or put up.”
It’s no surprise that Tommy’s an advocate of medical marijuana. He, along with Cheech Marin, became the most famous stoner comedians in history. In addition to medical pot – which is legal in California – Tomy told US Weekly that he’s using Joel S. Goldsmith’s 1998 book, Spiritual Power of Truth as a way to find comfort during these trying times.
Tommy Chong: A Life Full Of Laughing & Lighting Up
Born in Edmonton, Canada, Tommy found success as a marijuana-themed comedian with Cheech Marin in the 1970’s and 80’s, with albums Big Bambu, Cheech & Chong’s Wedding Album, and more. They also appeared in classic stoner movies Up In Smoke, Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie, Nice Dreams and Things Are Tough All Over. Their most recent adventure together was 2013’s Cheech & Chong’s Animated Movie.
Tommy was one of the many celeb taking part in the 19th season of Dancing with the Stars. Paired with Peta Murgatroyd, he was able to make it to night of the semi-finals, despite being at the bottom of the leaderboard numerous times. When not acting, Tommy is an activist for legalized marijuana. Tommy even spent nine months in jail in 2003 after being caught in a sting for selling his licensed drug paraphernalia over the internet.
Our thoughts go out to Tommy and his friends and family. HollywoodLifers, leave your words of encouragement for Tommy below! You can beat this, Tommy!
