It’s every beachgoer’s worst nightmare — a shark attack. Two teens were mauled in two separate shark attacks on a beach in North Carolina. The horrific incidents happened only 90 minutes apart from one another. So scary!
Two teenagers were viciously bitten by sharks in separate attacks June 14 on a North Carolina beach. The incidents happened at Oak Island beach, and have left both kids with horrible injuries, including loss of limbs. How horrifying!
One of the victims, a young girl — who is not being identified, lost part of her left arm and was in danger of losing her left leg in the attack, according to ABC News. She was attacked just after 4 p.m., while playing waist deep in the ocean.
As for the boy, he was attacked a little more than an hour later and only two miles away from the first incident. Around 5:30 p.m., medics responded to the second attack which left the boy badly injured and also without a left arm.
It was not known if the same shark was responsible for both attacks, but teams were out looking for any sharks that might have been involved in the attacks. Oak Island Mayor Betty Wallace told the press, “They have a helicopter and they’re flying the helicopter up along the beach to see if they spot anything.”
“I saw someone carry this girl (out of the water) and people were swarming around and trying to help,” Steve Bouser ( a beach bystander) told The Associated Press. “It was quite terrible.” His wife Brenda added, “It was so much like a scene from Jaws.” So horrifying!
Thankfully both victims were in fair condition as of June 15 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington according to ABC News.
Our thoughts are with both the victims and their families at this time.
