The Cumberbaby is here! Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife, Sophie Hunter, have welcomed their first child together — a darling baby boy. Congrats to the first-time parents!
Benedict Cumberbatch is a dad! The 38-year-old Sherlock star and Oscar nominee is now a father to a baby boy! Benedict and his wife, Sophie Hunter, 37, announced the big news on June 13. This is the first child for the couple.
“Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son,” Benedict’s rep confirmed to HollywoodLife.com. “We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during these next few precious weeks.”
The news of their special arrival comes just a few months after their romantic Valentine’s Day wedding. Benedict and Sophie were surrounded by close family and friends, including Martin Freeman, as they said “I do.” The couple announced their were expecting their first child in Jan. 2015. Throughout awards season, when Benedict was nominated for his performance in The Imitation Game, Sophie glowed on the red carpet.
The name of Sophie and Benedict’s baby boy has not been revealed. Could Benedict pay homage to his Sherlock character? In addition to the exciting baby news, Benedict was recently awarded a CBE. The award acknowledges his contributions to drama and is only one rank below knighthood!
Benedict has a big year ahead in film. The actor nabbed the role of Hamlet in the production of the play, which is set to hit the London stage in Aug. 2015. Films like The Yellow Birds, Flying Horse, Doctor Strange and Jungle Book: Origins have recently been announced and are in the production stages.
