We’re shocked! Rupert Murdoch, 84, has been such a fixture with 21st Century Fox, we thought he would stay with the company forever. Now, a report claims that Rupert is preparing to resign from his post as CEO of the media corporation and hand control over to his son!
Rupert reportedly plans on transferring the title of CEO of 21st Century Fox to his son, James Murdoch, sources close to the Murdoch family tell CNBC. The announcement is expected in the near future, but whether or not this means that the company is going to change things up right away or at the end of the year is unknown.
James won’t be running 21st Century Fox by himself. James will reportedly work with alongside with his brother, Lachlan Murdoch, who will be a co-executive chairman with his father, reports Business Insider. Yep, even though Rupert isn’t running the show, he still will be around to make sure everything goes right.
Rupert Murdoch bought a controlling stake in 21st Century Fox back in 1984. Two years later, the Fox Broadcasting Company took to the air and began Rupert’s media empire in the United States! While he won’t be the CEO of 21st Century Fox, Rupert will reportedly still remain in charge of his other company, News Corp.
21st Century Fox (once known as 20th Century Fox) is the studio that has released some of the biggest films over the last twenty years! Avatar, Titanic, Independence Day, Home Alone, Night at the Museum, The Simpsons Movie, all of the Star Wars movies — all these blockbusters have all come out of that legendary studio!
