The original bromance trumps again! Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are at it again, proving to everyone that they are the best of best friends — they shared a kiss at the ‘Mr. Holmes’ premiere in London on June 10 — and the pics are hysterical.
Professor X and Magneto are at it again. Patrick Stewart, along with his wife Sunny Ozell headed to the Odeon cinema in Kensington for the premiere of Mr. Holmes, which stars Patrick’s BFF, Ian McKellen. When they met up, both men were literally glowing with happiness and shared a cute kiss and hug. The guys, who have been friends for years and pretty much have taken over the world, recently documented their tourist lives together — and it was perfect.
Ian, who takes on the role of Sherlock Holmes in the film, revealed that at 76, he thought he was “too old” for the role.
“I never had any ambition to play Sherlock Holmes,” he said. “I thought I was too old, then this part of a 93-year-old Sherlock came along so it’s been extraordinary. It’s not ridiculous to play a character others have done. I’ve played Hamlet. So I think, don’t deny yourself the possibility of playing a wonderful part. My Holmes is a script nobody else has done. This is a different aspect to him… It is another play on the familiar character.”
It’s no surprise that Patrick came to show support — the BFFs recently starred on Broadway together in Waiting For Godot and No Man’s Land. However, it may be awhile before we see them on screen together — Ian will be reprising his role as Magneto in X-Men: Apocalypse, but we’re not sure about Patrick as Charles Xavier.
“Magneto, Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in it. And what I’m very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together. Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of X-Men from the four movies that I’ve already done. I’d just like to get to drive his motorbike, I think,” he told Oregon Live in February. He also added, “I understand that it seems to be very unlikely that I will be in the next X-Men movie, which is almost getting ready to start shooting in Montreal.”
Well, on screen or off, these two are still my favorite!
