Hello, old friends. The X-Files, which last aired on television 13 years ago, will make its triumphant return in the form of a 6-episode miniseries on Fox on Jan. 24. Better yet, original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will both reprise their iconic roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively. It was almost too good to be true– but now, we can really believe it because we have a first pic of the two back in action, together on set!
The picture, clearly, features Mulder and Scully, in what appears to be a near lip lock! This could be very telling of where and how things kick off when the series at last returns.
While we wait for these first episodes to air, though, we can already get (cautiously) excited for a potential second season! David said, of doing more episodes, “I would be open to doing another cycle,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I don’t know that I could do a 20-episode version of this show at this point in my life, and I don’t know that Gillian could. But I think everybody is open ended on what happens after this. Certainly, we didn’t bring it back with the idea of ending it.”
David also revealed just a smidgeon of information as to the upcoming series’ format. Asked wether it would feature episodic mysteries or a season-long arc, he said, “Even though there’s only six, there will be a mix. It’s not really The X-Files without the mythology.”
What do you think of the first on set picture? Are you excited for The X-Files revival?
