You guys can still be our stars! ‘Smash’ stars Megan Hilty & Katharine McPhee reunited to once again bring Marilyn Monroe to the Broadway stage and we may combust. Watch video of the two golden throated gals right now!
RIP Smash. On June 8, Megan Hilty, Katharine McPhee and the rest of the cast of NBC’s short-lived Broadway series reunited for a concert to benefit The Actors Fund. However, this wasn’t just any concert. The one-night only event was billed as Bombshell live, also known as the show within the show about the life of Marilyn Monroe. The ladies sang all of the series’ biggest hits including, “Let Me Be Your Star,” “The National Pastime,” and, duh, “Don’t Forget Me.” Check out some of the clips if you think your musical-theater loving heart can handle it.
The musical drama, the premise of which was the mounting of a Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe called Bombshell, focused initially on two young actresses both vying to play Marilyn (Kat and Megan). The role was tossed back and forth between the two of them– and weirdly Uma Thurman at one point– until it eventually went to Ms. Ivy Lynn, who won a Tony for the role at the end of the series.
However, at the special benefit concert, both women alternated singing the glorious Marilyn role, along with other cast members who were also on hand to belt some Bombshell tunes, including Jeremy Jordan, Debra Messing and Christian Borle.
Sadly, for those fans who wanted to relive the Broadway series at the concert, most were out of luck when it came to getting tickets. The concert, which was fully for charity, sold out in presale to those who donated to a Kickstarter before even going on sale to the general public.
Well, even though we didn’t get tickets (and aren’t at all horribly bitter about it), we can honestly say, Smash, we won’t forget you– especially when we look to the heavens with someone we love or see diamonds we wish were all free. Okay, seriously Smash come back please.
What do you think of Megan and Kat’s reunion footage? Do you miss Smash?
