Good news, ‘Degrassi’ fans — the show isn’t going anywhere! Less than a week after the show’s cancellation, it’s been confirmed that the beloved Canadian series will continue with ‘Degrassi: Next Class’ on Netflix and Canada’s Family Channel in January 2016!
Degrassi lives on! Although TeenNick announced the cancellation of Degrassi: The Next Generation on June 4, the series will continue on Netflix and Family Channel with the franchise’s newest installment, Degrassi: Next Class, beginning next year.
AH, we are so excited! DHX Media, which distributes the teen series, announced the amazing news on June 9 after fans showed an ‘outpouring of love’ for the show. Really, it makes sense — the Internet went absolutely berserk when TeenNick announced the cancellation!
So, here’s what you can expect: The networks (Netflix in the US, and Family Channel in Canada) will air 20 new episodes beginning in January 2016, with the show’s new subtitle. “Following an unprecedented and incredibly supportive 14-year relationship with Bell Media on Degrassi: The Next Generation, we are looking forward to reaching a fresh new audience with Degrassi: Next Class,” executive producer, Linda Schuyler, said. “We are energized and excited to work with Family Channel as we tell stories for the post-millennial teen cohort known as Generation Z, most of whom weren’t even born when Degrassi returned in 2001.”
Popular cast members will be back to reprise their roles in the new installment, including Amanda Arcuri (Lola Pacini), Reiya Downs (Shay Powers), Ana Golja (Zoe Rivas), Nikki Gould (Grace Cardinal) and many more!
But, as HollywoodLife.com previously reported, don’t expect famous alums like Nina Dobrev and Drake to be coming back. “There has been zero rumblings of a return and nothing has been filmed with either of them,” an insider told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “So the chances of them returning at this point are not very likely.
It’s fine, though, you guys! The show is coming back and that’s all that matters! So tell us, HollywoodLifers — will you watch Degrassi when it returns next year?
