Whoa — the caliber of talent on season 10 of ‘America’s Got Talent’ just keeps getting better and better! What an amazing third week of auditions, right? See which acts got Mel B and the rest of the judges out of their seats!
Mel B, 39, Heidi Klum, 41, Howard Stern, 61, and Howie Mandel, 59, thought they had seen it all — until tonight. On the June 9 episode of America’s Got Talent, a handful of acts came through that blew the judges away — and us, too! Mel was actually so touched by one of the performers that she felt implored to press the golden buzzer, sending them straight to the live shows at Radio City Music Hall in NYC!
The show started out on a great note — with a performance from a hunky British ventriloquist by the name of Paul Zerdin. The 42-year-old mouthed a monologue for a funny puppet named Sam, which the judges were very taken with. After the hilarious set, all four judges stood up, clapping their hands furiously. Obviously, Paul (and Sam!) were a hit. “I think you just everything really well,” Mel explained to him. “You captured everybody in this room, which is a hard thing to do. Bloody great!” And just like that, Mr. Zerdin was on to the next round!
Next, a shy, young singer named Alondra graced the stage. She took the judges by surprise when she started singing in Spanish, belting as if she were related to Shakira. Seriously, the girl sounded Grammy-worthy! The judges thought so too. “You’ve got to get out more!” Howie told her. “You shouldn’t hold this treasure to yourself. You are absolutely beautiful and powerful.” The kind words brought little Alondra to tears. Wiping her eyes, the pre-teen excitedly accepted their offer to move on in the competition. You go, girl!
A few contestants later, a quirky 96-year-old woman named Tao Borchon lit things up with an impressively energetic ballroom dance routine. As the senior citizen moved it and grooved it across the stage, it was hard to believe she’s only a few years away from turning 100! The judges gave her four yeses, so she can shake it some more for America. Howard was obviously the most enthusiastic about her performance. The radio host called her “an inspiration” and told her that she was “what this show is all about.” Bravo!
Another standout from the lineup? The adorable LA Children’s Orchestra! About 30 musically-inclined kids showed off their chops with a breathtaking orchestral Beatles mashup — complete with choreography! “Kids, you should be very proud of yourselves,” Heidi told them. Howard, Howie and Mel were also fans and pushed them through!
While these four performers — and more! — knocked the socks off of the judges, there was one act that really fell flat. Two middle-aged singers named Ellen and Terri who called themselves The Orchids. Struggling through a shaky version of Cyndi Lauper‘s 80s classic, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” the women made us all want to plug our ears — and got Howard to slam down on his red “X” ASAP. Yikes!
Mel B Used The Golden Buzzer — Was It Well-Deserved?
In the last performance of the night, soul singer Sharon Irving, 29, wowed the crowd with a heartfelt performance of Hozier‘s “Take Me To Church.” It was legit amazing — just ask Mel, who couldn’t get enough of the aspiring star!
“You sent chills down my whole spine!” she raved to Sharon. “I feel compelled to do something I’ve never done before. You wanna know what that is? I’m going to press the golden buzzer!” Immediately, the former Spice Girl pushed the button sending the artist automatically to the first round of live shows in NYC!
“I’m overwhelmed. I’m so grateful and I’m so encouraged,” Sharon said as she teared up. Sigh. Another incredible episode of AGT. Can’t wait for next week!
America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
