What a soccer game! The 2015 Women’s World Cup is underway and the competition is already turning fierce! Team USA took on Australia in their first match on June 8 and wow! The intense match between the two teams ended with the US winning with a score of 3-1!
There’s nothing like the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup! Watching all the soccer squads from around the world come together to compete really gets the blood pumping. When Hope Solo, 33 and the rest of the United States Women’s National Team took on Team Australia on June 8, it was quite the clash — one that ended with Team USA winning 3-1!
If this match is any indication of what’s to come, this will be a great World Cup! The USA and Australia soccer teams met at Winnipeg’s Investors Group Field in Canada on June 8 and from the get-go, it was non-stop excitement!
Megan Rapino scored early for the US, netting at a goal at just 12 minutes into the game. However, Australia’s Lisa De Vanna proved why she’s a threat in the competition by scoring a goal at the 27th minute, tying it up! After halftime, Team USA went 2-1 when Christen Press scored her very first World Cup goal at minute 61. Megan decided once wasn’t enough — she scored her second point of the game at minute 78, giving the USA a 3-1 lead! It was all over after that!
Team USA went into this match ranked number two soccer squad in the world — and they showed why with their impressive win! Still, the Aussies were no pushovers. Lisa De Vanna made her 100th appearance with Team Australia, and she has scored an impressive 36 goals in her career, including the one in this match!
Earlier in the day, the other Group D game between Nigeria and Sweden ended in a draw, reports ESPN. The fact that Nigeria held one of the best teams in the world to a tie is downright amazing. Sweden’s Nilla Fischer scored in the first half of the game, putting her team up 2-0. Yet, when when they were down 3-2, Nigeria wouldn’t give up, and Francisca Ordega scored a goal in the 87th minute of the game. Wow! Nigeria goes on to face Australia on June 12 with USA playing Sweden on the same day.
