How, how, how has it been 30 years since ‘The Goonies’ hit theaters? Oh you were wondering the same thing? Yes, on June 7, 1985, the movie hit theaters and everyone was immediately obsessed. So, we’re reliving it by looking at how the cast has changed over the years and what they’re doing now.
Hey you guys! Not all diehard fans of The Goonies could make it to Astoria, Oregon for the 30th anniversary of the film hitting theaters, so we’re doing all we can to get that nostalgia feeling going for you. You may know where some of the stars of The Goonies are today (uh, Josh Brolin anyone?), but not all of them continued such career paths — and they all look very different. Click through our gallery to see what they look like now.
If you are looking to celebrate in Astoria, June 7 has officially become a holiday. According to TheGoondocks.org, there are many events for the weekend that mega fans can attend — and yes, it will include surprise guests. The main guest of course will be Jeff Cohen, AKA Chunk. These days, he’s a lawyer who our partner Variety had on their Dealmakers Impact List and their Legal Impact List. So basically, he’s a big deal now.
He’ll be doing three autographing sessions (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and doing “Growing Up Goonie,” in which he’ll reveal memories from the set. Of course, he’s not the only special guest: Randell Widner, stuntman who doubled for Sloth, Mark Marshall , Mick Alderman, and Paul Gillum will also attend. Naturally, all the details are on the site.
The Goonies may have kicked off the acting careers of Josh Brolin and Martha Plimpton, but not everyone stuck with acting! But you have to click through our gallery for that. Let us know how you’re planning to celebrate the anniversary of The Goonies.
