Joe Jonas, 25, was a good friend to Gigi Hadid, 20, following her split from Cody Simpson, 18. Joe was a shoulder to cry on and because of that, he won her heart, HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned. But it’s early days for the two, who aren’t getting carried away just yet.
Gigi split from the Aussie pop star on May 9, as the pair released a joint statement saying they wanted to focus on their careers. Days later, Gigi was spotted grabbing lunch with Joe, which forced her rep to deny that they were dating.
However, since that lunch date, feelings between Joe and Gigi have been heating up. They were seen together at Maybelline New York’s 100th Anniversary party, according to E! News. And just two days before that, they were spotted getting very intimate with each other at Refinery29‘s party at the Boom Boom Room, where Us Weekly reported they were seen kissing.
“Gigi and Joe realized soon after he reached out to her — after she split with Cody — that they should make a fist of things,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “Even when she was together with Cody, Gigi remained very close to Joe. She didn’t see him as often out of respect for her then-boyfriend, but she always considered him a good friend.”
“So, as soon as he offered a shoulder to cry on, Joe became the knight in shining armor she was looking for. Not only did he listen to her woes, she also soon realized that he was a better fit for her than Cody,” the source continued.
Despite their obvious romantic ties, the two are reluctant to get carried away just yet, according to our insider.
“They aren’t rushing anything just yet. They are taking things incredibly slowly,” the source revealed. “Joe knows Gigi’s still nursing some heartbreak, so they’ll just see where this goes for the time being. Whatever happens though, they’re sure they’ll always remain very tight pals.”
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Gigi’s ex isn’t happy how things between her and Joe have escalated so quickly.
“Cody thinks that Gigi should have waited to move on because he thought they had something really special,” a source told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “He isn’t over it, and now that she’s moved on so fast, he is not taking it so well.”
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Is Gigi moving on too quickly?
