Drake, 28, may have started from the bottom, but he was on top of his game during the Governors Ball in New York City on June 6. The rapper, who recently dropped a new mix tape titled If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, worked the stage and had the audience playing along with him like they were onstage, too.
Drake headlined the first night of the three-day festival, where he ran through a number of his hits, including “Started From The Bottom,” “The Motto,” and “Know Yourself.” At one point, a fan even jumped onstage and danced at the edge of it, but security quickly pulled this person away.
Drake jumped around onstage during his 75-minute performance, while looking excited the entire time. He even called the audience “the best festival crowd I’ve ever seen in my life,” before adding, “I put that on everything. I put that on my momma, too.” Drake loved the crowd so much that he suggested bringing his Canadian music festival, OVO Fest, to NYC.
“You want me to bring the OVO Fest to New York?” he asked the crowd of 50,000, according to ABC News. “I may have to bring Kanye [West] out … I might have to bring Beyoncé out … Me, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.” Now that would be AWESOME — almost as awesome as the fireworks display that went off at the end of Drake’s performance.
Governors Ball Performances
Friday’s show also included performances by Charli XCX, St. Vincent, Chromeo and Florence + the Machine. Deadmau5, Bjork, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Lana Del Rey and A-Trak will be performing between today, June 6, and tomorrow, June 7.
