The Gucci Cruise collection from Creative Director Alessandro Michele debuted in NYC, where the designer further redefined the Gucci girl with a slew of retro looks — and we loved it! Are you loving the stylish new direction of the fashion house?
Destination runway shows are all the rage these days, (just ask Chanel, Louis Vuitton or Dior), and Gucci got in on the action when the Italian fashion house unveiled their Resort 2016 collection in NYC on June 4 at a Chelsea gallery, shutting down an entire street to stage their runway show. From the exposed brick walls to the ornate rugs, both the decor and the collection echoed former decades with a modern, quirky twist — and it was fabulous.
Alessandro’s first collection for the label was very retro chic and 70s-inspired — and the sentiment crossed over for the resort line, really establishing his aesthetic at the fashion house. His vision is clear, and one thing is for sure: Alessandro’s Gucci gal is a whole new woman, and she’s here to stay!
The 60s and 70s came alive in the collection, which consisted of chevron prints, knits, mod, thigh-high mini dresses, skirt suits, fur and lace. Embroidery, bold colors, sheer gowns and unexpected prints also made their way down the runway. He surely didn’t skip out on the accessories, as models sported a fistful of rings with their looks and wore eyeglasses and head scarves.
The front row included 50 Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson — and it’s only a matter of time before the cool celeb set shows off the retro yet feminine new Gucci looks on the red carpet.
