Whoa. In a very revealing new interview with ‘Men’s Health,’ Chris Pratt shared that he was absolutely miserable when he hit his heaviest weight: 300lbs. Plus, find out which one of his own movie roles inspired him to get back in shape for good!
Chris Pratt, 35, was best known as the lovable, chubby Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation for many years. But, it was his remarkable turn as Peter Quill in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy — and his drastic body transformation — that rocketed him to a household name. Now, the Jurassic World star has shared the emotional toll his fluctuating weight had on him for so many years, and how it left him feeling “emotionally depressed” and “impotent.”
Believe it or not, Chris used to eat three or four cheeseburgers at every Parks and Recreation table read. That was just one of the many things that helped the actor stay out of shape, something he admits once felt was a necessary trait for playing Andy. Then, he saw himself back in shape and on the big screen of the Oscar winning film, Zero Dark Thirty, and he decided to make a permanent change, the actor told Men’s Health UK.
“I’m going to get in shape and I’m never going to be fat again,” he told himself after seeing himself in the film. At the time, his weight had been fluctuating back and forth for different movie roles, but it was for his role in the 2013 dramedy Delivery Man that Chris weighed in at nearly 300lbs — his heaviest ever.
“I was impotent, fatigued, emotionally depressed,” Chris admits in the interview, which really dives into exactly how out of shape he was before bulking up for Guardians. “I had real health issues that were affecting me in a major way. It’s bad for your heart, your skin, your system, your spirit.” Hearing that Chris was once impotent is truly shocking, and it definitely says a lot about his loving, supportive wife, Anna Faris, 38.
Now, to be fair, Chris was still very handsome and charming as Andy on Parks — overweight or not. But, as he gears up for the release of Jurassic World, it’s safe to say that he’s never looked better! Hopefully his story will inspire others to take back their lives, too.
