When Caitlyn Jenner told her kids that she was making the transition to becoming a woman, they supported her — but it’s no surprise that they were confused about what to call her. Thankfully, Caitlyn’s allowing them to still call her ‘dad.’
Caitlyn Jenner, 65, officially came out as a transgender woman on the July 2015 cover of Vanity Fair, and the week following the cover spread (revealed on June 1) was filled with overwhelming praise and, unfortunately, some difficulty. But Caitlyn is doing her best to keep things simple at home, and one of the ways she’s doing so is by letting her kids still call her “dad” as they always have. Aw!
Caitlyn came out in beautiful way, letting the world know she’d arrived as a proud (and absolutely gorgeous) woman with nothing standing in her way any longer. After her groundbreaking interview with Diane Sawyer last month, we all know how much this meant to her.
As we all know, her kids have been very supportive of Caitlyn, but are still confused about how to refer to her. Caitlyn is making it easier on them, recognizing that it may take awhile for them to get accustomed to her transition, and giving them ample time to do so. They’re all allowed to call her “dad” if they want to continue do so, which must be a relief for them.
“[Caitlyn] spoke to each of the kids separately and told them to take their time in getting used to this,” a source close to the Jenner family told People magazine. “She would prefer not to be called ‘Bruce,’ but told the kids that they could still call her ‘Dad,’ at least for now.”
“Caitlyn has been really understanding that it doesn’t come naturally for anyone,” the source said. “No one expects this change to happen overnight. If one of the boys slips up, it’s not a big deal.” We think Caitlyn has a great attitude about the process. It really just shows how much she loves her children, doesn’t it?
Why Caitlyn’s Children Absolutely Love Her
When it came to being “dad” to Burt, Casey, Brandon, and Brody Jenner, even Caitlyn has admitted to making some mistakes. But, she’s vowing to make up for lost time now that she’s living life free from hiding her true identity, and free from many of her own issues. In her Vanity Fair cover story, some of Caitlyn’s kids spoke about their hopes for a new relationship with their “dad.”
“I have high hopes that Caitlyn is a better person than Bruce,” Burt told the magazine very honestly. “I’m very much looking forward to that.”
Brody, her youngest son, had this to say: “As soon as I heard it, it was almost a relief. Because it just made a lot of sense growing up. Reasons and things like why he wasn’t there. Not around. I finally realized he had his own issues he was dealing with at that time.”
We wish only the best to the Jenner family! HollywoodLifers, what do you think about Caitlyn allowing her kids to still call her “dad?”
