Gasp! Is Harry Styles planning to follow in Zayn Malik’s footsteps by leaving One Direction?! When asked by Ryan Seacrest if he had plans for a solo career in the future, the boy bander totally froze up, and awkwardly stammered out a vague response. Listen here!
Don’t do this to us, Harry Styles! The 21-year-old called into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on June 4 to talk about One Direction’s upcoming tour and album. But when Ryan questioned whether or not Harry planned to branch out on his own one day…he didn’t even try to deny it! Is Harry leaving 1D!?
Zayn Malik, 22, already broke our hearts by deciding to quit the band — we don’t know we could handle it if Harry decided to, too. Now, relax, Directioners…there’s no plans for another exit just yet. But Harry definitely made it seem like a solo career isn’t outside the realm of possibility once the tour and fifth album are complete.
“We have the album and the tour that we’re working on right now. And I think, when you have so many goals that you feel you have yet to achieve, it’s kind of hard to see past those,” the singer explained. “I think it’s important to focus on what’s going on and don’t lose track. We’re all working toward the same thing right now, and I don’t think we’re thinking much past that.”
From that response, it certainly seems that leaving the group has definitely been on Harry’s mind. Otherwise, wouldn’t he have just said he had no solo plans in the future, period?! This vague response is making us pretty nervous!
One Direction: Excited About Tour and Upcoming Album
Breathe easy, though. Even if Harry does decide to go solo, he’s made it pretty clear that he’ll at least stick it out throughout this tour and to finish up the new album, which, he says, the band is hoping to release before the end of this year.
“We’re all very excited. It’s exciting to have the opportunity to do any album, so being on the fifth one is really amazing for us,” he gushed. “We’re just about to start touring again, which we love, so it’s going great right now. Morale is good.”
1D will head back on the road this weekend, and play a few shows in Europe throughout June. Then, they’ll kick off the North American leg on July 9 in San Diego, and that will run through mid-September, before they head back across the pond through the end of October. Whew — going to be a few busy months for the lads!
