‘Pretty Little Liars’ Recap: The Girls Fight To Escape From Charles’ Wrath

‘Pretty Little Liars’ is bAck! The season 6 premiere was filled with tons of drama, tears and girl power. This is the summer of answers, and we’re definitely going to be getting them this season.

We need to talk about Charles. The June 2 premiere of Pretty Little Liars was straight-up bonkers, with Charles on a warpath. Charles proved to the girls that they should be very, very afraid of him, Alison (Sasha Pieterse) teamed up with Ezra (Ian Harding) and Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) and the girls went to great lengths to find a way out of Charles’ playhouse of hell. Season six is going to be one heck of a roller coaster, so let’s get to it!

After months of waiting, the premiere picked up right where we left off. As the girls ran outside, hoping they would escape, a girl dressed like Alison watched them. It kind of looked like CeCe, but my mind immediately thought of Bethany Young. I don’t know. I just need answers!

The girls made it out of Charles’ playhouse of terror, but there was really no way out. As punishment, Charles locked them out. “You may be a dude, but you’re still a bitch,” Hanna said, slaying Charles. Spencer confessed that she felt like she knew Charles when they came face-to-face. It was like he was an old childhood friend. Well, Charles was not a good friend. He forced the girls to sit out in the cold rain. Let’s chill out a bit, C.

The door finally opened back up, and the Liars (plus Mona) slowly made their way back inside. Once they were too far in to run back out, Charles dropped a smoke bomb and grabbed Mona! The next scene featured the four Liars lying like corpses in a morgue, and my heart honestly dropped to the floor. Aria woke up first, and for a split second, it looked like she thought they were all dead. Mona walked in after they all woke up and was pretending to be Alison again. Charles commanded the girls to return to their rooms, but Mona put up a fight.

However, Mona did let it drop that it wouldn’t be pretty if they didn’t listen to Charles. Well, Charles (or rather, “A”) wanted to send a message anyway. When the girls all went inside their rooms, they screamed in terror.

Three weeks later, Alison’s murder conviction had been overturned, and she was giving her first press conference. “My friends have always been my rocks,” she cried. “Without them, I am lost in the woods.” (Okay, Alison just made me cry all the tears. Totally cool.) Andrew was the main suspect in the girls’ kidnapping. Regardless of whether he had anything to do with Charles, I want him dead. Like, now.

Tanner wanted Alison to sort of be used as bait to try and lure Andrew out. The press conference was a part of that. While with the police, Alison got a call from an unknown number and a creepy song played. The police traced the call, and it was coming from inside the house! Gasp! While the police searched the house, they just found a disturbing mannequin. This was all just a ploy so Alison could run off!

Tanner believed that the song played on the phone was a message about the Campbell Apple Farm, and Alison was headed there. Tanner, go home. You’re drunk. Alison had faked the whole thing! She met up with Caleb and Ezra, determined to get the girls back. Alison was confident that Andrew would show up after her message, and Caleb and Ezra assured her that they would always have eyes on her. Who else is obsessed with their bromance?

‘Pretty Little Liars’ Recap: Silence Of The Liars

The girls were apparently locked up in their rooms for three weeks. Bless. Charles told the girls to come out and head to Alison’s room. The look of fear in their eyes was just heartbreaking. They are going to need lots and lots of therapy. When they went into Alison’s room, Mona was gone and Alison’s stuff was there. Emily figured it out. Charles was preparing for Alison’s arrival. Then, they all thought the same thing: What would Charles do to Mona now that he didn’t need her anymore?

Charles had a plan for Mona — death. He’d put her in a hole à la Silence of the Lambs and left her there to rot. The poor girl just can’t catch a break. Mona knew it, too. As Aria went through Alison’s closet, she found these words carved into the wall: “He’s going to kill me.”

Charles had left a recent edition of the town paper just to let him know who was in charge. Apparently, Ashley had to be hospitalized after Hanna’s disappearance. Spencer admitted to the girls that Charles was a DiLaurentis.

Alison went to the kissing rock where she’d planned to meet Andrew and found a car waiting. She got in and started driving. She ended up at Tyler State Park. Not so coincidentally, Alison’s car ran out of gas right then and there. Thankfully, Ezra and Caleb were still following her. But when they found her car, they didn’t find Alison. Charles had left a note for her to put on the clothes from the night she disappeared or the girls would bite the dust. YIKES.

Back in Charles’ playhouse of doom, Spencer was officially done. This was their time to escape. It was now or never. They found a vent in one of the rooms, and it led to the room where Spencer met Charles. They all watched the old videotape of the DiLaurentis family at the apple farm. They may have been watching Charles, but Charles was still watching them.

Spencer had three words for him: “Game on, Charles.” She threatened to burn the videotape if he didn’t return Mona. Tell ’em, Spencer! Taking a cue from Fall Out Boy, Spencer started lighting EVERYTHING up. However, the fire started catching too quickly. When they pulled down a curtain to put down the fire, CHARLES WAS WATCHING.

The girls ran to find Mona. They didn’t have any time to lose. If they didn’t find a way out, they would all die. But we all knew that wouldn’t happen. Otherwise, the show would be called Pretty Dead Liars. The only one I was worried about was Mona. She has the worst luck. They managed to get her out of the hole. While the girls were simultaneously climbing up a set of stairs, Ezra, Caleb and Alison were trying to open the trap door.

When they got the door opened, there were the girls! PRAISE! (I’ll be right back. I’m going to go sob into the night.) When Ezra saw Aria, he said, “I thought I lost you.” I simply cannot. Spoby kissed, and it was magical.

The police also found that chick from the beginning of the episode. When the officer asked her name, she said, “Sara Harvey.” Oh, yeah. She was the girl who went missing around the same time Alison did. But who is she, and what does Charles want from her? This is the summer of answers, and I am demanding them. Alison wants them, too. She asked her dad in the show’s final moments, “Who is Charles DiLaurentis?”

Girl, I’m wondering the same thing.

HollywoodLifers, what did you think of the Pretty Little Liars season premiere? What does Sara Harvey have to do with Charles’ plan? Let us know!
