The notoriously anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church tried to fight with J.K. Rowling on Twitter — and lost, obviously. When the author tweeted in celebration of Ireland finally legalizing gay marriage, the trolls over at WBC made fools out of themselves with their response. Read on to see how J.K. owned their asses!
J.K. Rowling, 49, is a hero to us all, partly because she’s a master at Twitter wars. Case in point: when the Westboro Baptist Church account tried to rile her up with a hate speech about Dumbledore and Gandalf, J.K. shut them down so fast and hard that they’re probably still on the ground. It’s just how she rolls!
J.K. Rowling’s Anti-Gay Tweet Response: Slams Westboro Baptist Church
To break it down, here’s how it started. After Ireland legalized same-sex marriage on May 22, a fan tweeted at J.K. that they hoped Harry Potter character Dumbledore would “feel welcome” in Ireland. The author responded with cute emojis and a meme of Keanu Reeves:

That’s a cute and fun response, no? Well, not everyone thought so. In a classic instigation move on the part of the Westboro Baptist Church, they responded with this tweet:
Let’s dissect this. Beyond the ridiculous notion of the church threatening to picket A FICTIONAL SITUATION, note the poorly photoshopped collage of bible quotes, clip art, and a child. Obviously, it’s offensive on many levels — it’s an insult to the LGBT community, HP and Lord of the Rings fans, and the institution of Photoshop. For shame!
No way was J.K. going to take this one sitting down (though, arguably, she can tweet sitting down). She fired back with a barb that was both eloquent and potent:
.@WBCsigns Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls.

There’s not much else to say here, except bye to the haters.
HollywoodLifers, is J.K. Rowling the coolest person alive? Please let us know.
