Here we go again! Season 10 of ‘America’s Got Talent’ has finally kicked off — and whoa, were these acts incredible or what?! Read on to see which performances were able to wow the judges on the May 26 premiere — and which one already got Howie to press the golden buzzer!
Nick Cannon, 34, is back in action as this year’s host of America’s Got Talent — and our four favorite judges Heidi Klum, 41, Mel B, 39, Howie Mandel, 59, and Howard Stern, 61, are already having a ball getting to know some of the most unique talents in the U.S.! In the show’s tenth season, the stakes are higher than ever with some of the best competitors out there. We’re just getting started — so let’s see who has what it takes to become the country’s favorite act!
‘America’s Got Talent’ Season 10 Kickoff — May 26 Recap
The most adorable dancing duo, Noah, 8, and Elin, 7, started the show off, already blowing the judges away. The kids performed a high-energy hip hop number to MC Hammer‘s “Can’t Touch This” and it was beyond adorbs. And Howard agreed! “That was really cute. That was awfully cute,” he said after their number. In fact, he even joked that it was so sweet, “I got diabetes!” The other judges agreed and four yeses got these youngsters to the next round!
A few contestants later, we were introduced to hypnotist Chris Jones, 28, who did the unthinkable: he got self-described “germaphobe” Howie to (gasp!) shake hands! After putting him in a deep sleep, Chris was able to convince Mr. Mandel he had gloves on and — voila! — just like that, he was able to shake the 59-year-old’s hands with no problem. Stern initially hit the “X” for Chris, but retracted once he was able to manipulate Howie into forgetting about his fear of germs. “I apologize,” the radio host said. “I’m your first vote!” Mel and Heidi were just as impressed and Chris made it past the first round!
Next up: a hunky foursome called Show Project, a German and Czech Republican group of gymnasts. The four men seriously impressed the judges – and crowd – with their ripped bodies, but caused jaws to drop when they showed off their gravity-defying tumbling and acrobatics! “That was pretty spectacular,” Mel B raved. “Your strength, the way you look, your timing to the music, your presentation.” Four yeses later and these guys are one step closer to their dream of having their own show in Las Vegas!
Okay, next we had to take out our box of Kleenex because the next performer was a real tearjerker! Singer-songwriter Johnny Shelton, 25, sang an original tune he wrote for the 5-year-old son he lost to cancer. After finishing “That’s Love,” Johnny got a standing ovation from Howie, who told him: “There is nothing more moving, nothing that tugged on my heart more.” Heidi also agreed it was “beautiful,” and the judges decided he was more than worthy to make it to the next round.
While these four performers, and more, amazed the judges, there were a few that fell flat. Among the rejects? A whoopie cushion diver, an inexperienced knife thrower and a dancing “sexy baby?!” Better luck next time, guys!
Howie Mandel Used The Golden Buzzer — Was It Well-Deserved?
In the last performance of the night, comedian Drew Lynch, 23, made the judges and the audience both laugh and cry. After suffering a sports injury, Drew developed a severe speech impediment. To cope, he is now pursuing a career as a standup comic — and it looks like he’s got a very bright future ahead of him. Why? Because Howie was so taken away with Drew’s jokes that he used his only shot to press the golden buzzer!
“Because of you and because of this moment, I want to do something very special that I haven’t gotten to do,” Howie told him. “And I want to do this!” And with that, he slammed down on the golden buzzer, sending Drew straight to the final rounds at Radio City Music Hall in NYC!
America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
