What a race! The highly-anticipated Indianapolis 500 took place over the Memorial Day Weekend, and Juan Pablo Montoya was the driver to cross the finish line first. Congrats!
It’s race season, y’all! Some of the best race car drivers in the world headed to Indianapolis, Indiana for the 99th annual Indianapolis 500 on May 24. After 200 laps and 15 years after his last Indy 500 win, Juan Pablo Montoya, 39, raced to a first place victory!
Juan Pablo Montoya: Indianapolis 500 Winner
The drivers of the Verizon IndyCar Series were all locked, loaded and had their eye on the Indy prize on May 24. However, only one could end up as the sole winner of the Indianapolis 500, and that person was Juan Pablo.
Juan Pablo, Will and Scott all fought valiantly at the top of the leaderboard. After Juan Pablo, Will, Charlie Kimball, Scott and Graham rounded out the top five. Helio would finish seventh. With Juan Pablo’s victory, this marks Team Penske’s 16th Indy 500 win.
But it wasn’t all fun and games. Indy racing can be a dangerous game, and many drivers found that out first-hand during practice rounds for the big race. On May 17, driver Ed Carpenter, 34, crashed his car into a wall and it flipped over before coming to rest. Thankfully, Ed was unharmed, but it was still a scary sight to behold. Drivers Josef Newgarden, 24, and Helio also experienced scary crashes during practice.
Let’s get back to the good stuff, though. After an incredible race, Juan Pablo deserves his chance in the spotlight.
