Atta boy, Nick! This season’s ‘American Idol’ winner, Nick Fradiani, dropped by the HollywoodLife podcast to chat about his recent win– and he thinks Kelly Clarkson might have had something to do with it!
On May 13, Nick Fradiani‘s life changed forever when he won season 14 of American Idol. Fresh off his victory, Nick dropped by the HollywoodLife podcast to tell us all about why he thinks he came out on top and which past winners gave him advice as to getting there. Turns out, the original Idol, season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson, gave Nick just the right words of wisdom to build up his confidence and– yup!– help him to serenade those all important cameras!
Nick Fradiani Interview
Apparently, in order to win American Idol, you have to learn to make love to the cameras.
Specifically, that little red dot inside the cameras! Thankfully for this season’s winner Nick, Kelly Clarkson was on hand to help with his electronics-serenading! “We sang Kelly Clarkson songs right in front of her which was stressful,” he said. “She suggested making eye contact and ‘making love to the red dot on the screen.'”
Well, hey, clearly that advice worked for ya, Nick!
On top of the helpful advice, Nick added that Kelly was all around awesome. “She’s literally one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet,” he said. “She just wanted to talk and was so friendly.”
Nick’s Gift From Carrie Underwood
Turns out, Kelly wasn’t the only past Idol winner who provided support to this year’s contestants. Another superstar who reached out? The one and only Carrie Underwood!
“Top 12 [week], we came into our hotel rooms and saw Tiffany bags and [I was like], ‘what’s going on? I don’t have anything from Tiffany’s!” Nick said. “I opened it up and it was a handwritten letter from Carrie Underwood saying some really nice things, she personalized it and signed it… She sent us Tiffany’s bags with necklaces. It was totally nice.”
So nice to see all these previous Idols reaching out to the next generations!
What do you guys think of Kelly’s advice to Nick?
