The end is near for Kobe Bryant wearing purple and gold. The Lakers general manager dropped a bomb in a new interview saying that Kobe has indicated to him that next season will be his last ever on the Lakers — and quite possibly in the NBA, too.
Is Kobe Bryant‘s retirement upon us? The seasoned basketball pro, 36, has hinted that he was thinking of leaving his NBA days behind after his contract expires next season, but Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak further backed that up in an interview on May 21, saying that the 17-time All-Star has indicated to him that “this is it”, after the 2015-2016 season — at least on the Lakers!

“He has indicated to me that this is it,” Mitch told Sirius XM NBA Radio, according to TMZ. “There have been no discussions about anything going forward. I don’t think there will be.”
This is saddening to hear as Kobe has become a basketball legend, but everyone reaches a point in their life when they must move on. Though Kobe hasn’t yet confirmed his leave after his $25 million contract expires next season, Mitch’s strong words indicate that it sounds like Kobe will not be returning — at least not to the Lakers!

“I’d be lying if I said that it hasn’t crossed my mind,” Kobe said. “Right now I doubt it … but anything’s possible.My body is hurting like crazy, around the clock, and if I don’t want to do this anymore, I won’t do it,” he continues.
At the end of the day, Kobe will be remembered as a basketball legend, and while it will be sad to see him retire, he has definitely made his mark on basketball history. He even passed Michael Jordan‘s scoring record!
