Best Drugstore Beauty — Celebrity Experts Reveal Affordable Favorites
Celebrity hairstylist Marcus Francis, who works with Hailee Steinfeld and Gwyneth Paltrow reveals: “Women love to know how to recreate celebrity hair looks. I always say if you don’t start with the right hair care, the look you want will be difficult to achieve. Using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner is a must for looking red carpet ready.”
He recommends Suave Professionals Sea Mineral Infusion Moisturizing Body Shampoo & Conditioner.
Celeb hairstylist Jenny Cho, who has styled the strands of Lea Michele and Jennifer Lawrence, spills how to get a runway look at home:
“Spritz Suave Professionals Sea Mineral Infusion Texturizing Sea Salt Spray throughout hair and divide into four sections, twisting into little buns and using hair clips to secure. Sleep with your hair in the buns and remove clips in the morning to reveal perfect tousled waves that aren’t stiff or crunchy.”
Esthetician Joanna Vargas, who works with celebs like Julianne Moore, Dakota Johnson and Karlie Kloss says:
“Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize — I can’t say it enough! Apply a body moisturizer right after taking a shower so your skin fully soaks up the beauty benefits. The Suave Professionals Sea Mineral Infusion Spray Lotion goes on sheer and leaves skin smooth and luminous.”
A Dermatologist Speaks On When To Splurge Vs. Save
Dr. David E. Bank, founder and director of The Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic, and Laser Surgery in Mt. Kisco, NY, says that you can get perfect skin without breaking the bank — get it?
“It’s important to invest in healthy skin, even if you have $15 in your pocket you can buy some products that will work wonderfully for your skin type.”
He tells us exclusively:
Where should people splurge vs. save on skincare?
“One product to splurge on is night cream. This is when the skin is in repair and restoration state, so get the most bang for your buck and take advantage of actives like retinol, peptides and growth factors. It is unnecessary to splurge on cleanser, as they are only on the skin for 60 or so seconds. As far as sunscreen goes make sure to use FDA approved ingredients.”
How can people with acne prone skin prevent breakouts with inexpensive products?
“Mind the ingredient list. Stay with oil free products and salicylic acid. Retinol can be used to affected areas at night, and benzoyl peroxide 5% to zap zits.”
Can shampoos and conditioners cause skin problems or acne?
“Yes, shampoos and conditioners can cause skin problems. They have chemicals that may block pores. Anti-dandruff products are great to use because bacteria and yeast that may be on other areas of the body are killed by the active ingredients in these shampoos/conditioners. Brands that I like are Aveeno, DHS zinc shampoo and CLEAR Scalp and Hair Therapy.
Best body washes that won’t dry out/strip skin?
“Dove with Nutrium moisture is a great body wash. Other good options are Cerave Hydrating Cleanser and Cetaphil Restoraderm Body Wash.”
