That’s how you say goodbye to a dear friend! When Bill Murray dropped by ‘The Late Show’ one last time, he was sure to leave a super sweet mark– uh, literally!

On May 19, Bill Murray paid his friend David Letterman one final visit at The Late Show, before Dave signs off the show for good on May 20. At the time of his last appearance, Bill had appeared on the show more than a dozen times, and he clearly was looking for a way to make his last one memorable. Cut to: an entrance fit for, uh… well, we’ll let you decide. Watch the hilarious clip right now, and laugh to keep from crying!

Bill Murray’s Cake Goodbye For Letterman

That is how you say bye.

Dave introduced his pal Bill one last time, and we’re not sure he was prepared for what was awaiting him. “Ladies and gentlemen, Bill Murray,” he said.

With that, a curtain was pulled open revealing a massive cake with the words “Goodbye Dave” written squarely across it. Well, you can probably guess where this is going. From the top of the cake, there was something poking out. Then, in an instant, a life-force burst through the frosting.

Any idea of who it was? Yup, the one and only Bill Murray!

Bill Murray Spreads The Love & Icing

What followed was some good old fashioned, physical comedy. First, Bill spilled directly onto the floor, covered in icing and wearing what looked like pilot goggles. Next, he wrapped Dave in a humongous bear hug, of course smothering him in sticky sweetness (even rubbing it in his hair).

Bill didn’t stop spreading the love there, though. Then he moved onto the iconic Late Show band, fist pounding them and covering their instruments in white creaminess.

Finally, he moved on to the audience, planting smooches throughout the crowd and, frankly, being all around delightful. Ugh, we’re laughing and sobbing– and happy not to be covered in icing.

Are you going to miss Letterman?
