David’s last show is May 20 and Jimmy took a moment to say a poignant few words about the legendary host and fellow comedian. It was so incredibly touching and made us cry!
Jimmy Fallon is normally cracking jokes left and right but on May 18 he decided to discuss David Letterman‘s retirement after 22 years of hosting the Late Show. Not only did Jimmy tell his audience and viewers at home that he grew up watching the famed show but he noted that David helped lift up the nation after 9/11 and he thanked him for that.
Jimmy Fallon’s Tearfully Says Goodbye To David Letterman & Calls Him ‘Courageous’ — Watch
Jimmy first showed a page from his yearbook where one of his teachers predicted that he would take Letterman’s job, how funny is that! But the best part was when he reminded the world of these words said by David in 2001 after the horrific terror attack on the World Trade Center in NYC, the Pentagon in D.C. and United 93.
“There is only one requirement for any of us and that is to be courageous, because courage, as you know, defines all other human behavior.’ We needed that. David Letterman is courageous. Have a nice retirement, Dave.”
That is just so sweet and a reminder of how David laughed, cried and picked us up when we were down.
David Disses Stephen Colbert: A Woman Should Be ‘Late Show’ Replacement
Dave made some shocking comments in an April 29 interview with Dave Itzkoff of The New York Times.
“I always thought Jon Stewart would have been a good choice [to replace him]. And then Stephen,” Dave said. “And then I thought, well, maybe this will be a good opportunity to put a black person on, and it would be a good opportunity to put a woman on. Because there are certainly a lot of very funny women that have television shows everywhere. So that would have made sense to me as well.”
We really were surprised he would say something like this since his replacement had already been decided!
“Yeah, I guess so,” said Dave. “Just as a courtesy, maybe somebody would say: ‘You know, we’re kicking around some names. Do you have any thoughts here?’ But it doesn’t bother me now.”
HollywoodLifers, are you going to miss David’s show?
