She’s back! After 17 years away, Mariah Carey made her return to The Billboard Music Awards with a shaky performance of ‘Infinity’ and ‘Vision Of Love’ — including some attempts at her signature vocal acrobatics!
The one and only Mariah Carey, 46, brought all of her delicious divaness to her performance at The Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 17! Unfortunately, the once flawless songbird struggled as she sang her brand new song “Infinity” as well as her classic slow dance hit from 1990 “Vision Of Love”!
Mariah Carey’s Billboard Awards Performance: Performs ‘Vision Of Love’ & ‘Infinity’
A Mariah show is always exciting and her Billboard Music Awards performance was no different! Although there were some unsteady moments as she started out with her classic “Vision Of Love”, Mariah ended up getting a little stronger as she moved into her newest tune, “Infinity”.
The pop icon should be in fighting form as she signed a deal for her own residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Apparently Mariah figured she had been performing so much she didn’t need her final rehearsal before the awards sending producers into a panic reports TMZ.
But producers needn’t worry about a vet like Mariah as she showed up and delivered for the show. Don’t they know diva’s don’t need to rehearse!
While fans loved her performance at the Billboard Awards, they didn’t love the singer canceling a performance in only the first week of her residency at Caesars Palace! Mariah came down with bronchitis which forced her to cancel her May 13 concert at the last-minute which infuriated some fans.
“Hey guys..I’ve been fighting bronchitis for the past few days.. almost better but on mandatory vocal rest per doctor’s orders. I’m so sorry to cancel tonight’s show but I promise to make it up to you!!! Love you always, MC,” the pop diva wrote on Instagram.
Although most fans were only concerned with her ailing health, a number of them were upset at the way this situation was handled. Check out what they said!
“Wow! Typically, she’s already canceling…. First week into this,” one fan commented on the Instagram photo. “When I used to follow her, she was ALWAYS late. Sometimes up to 2 hours late, to appear! By then, people would be upset. We get it…she is a diva. But last-minute canceling shows no regard for people. The fans feelings are just not priority. Honestly, I wouldn’t go out of my way to see her show. I’ve followed her for years, met her 3 times. The voice isn’t really what it was. The music is NOT the same, to say the least. I don’t buy any of her new stuff. There’s really no way to compensate for those who have spent in airfare, hotel, just to see the show. Sorry guys… It has to be very disappointing.” Yikes!
What do YOU think HollywoodLifers, did Mariah give the best performance of the night?
