Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 21, was found guilty of all 30 charges against him on April 8 in connection to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing that left 4 people dead and 264 injured. Of those 30 charges, a total of 17 came with the possibility of the death penalty, which Dzhokhar was sentenced to on Friday afternoon, May 15, in a Boston, Mass. courtroom.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev: Death Penalty Given To Convicted Boston Marathon Bomber
A decision has been made. After a Boston jury deliberated for over 16 hours, it was decided that convicted bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev would face the death penalty for his crimes. As the sentence was read, Tsarnaev said nothing, did nothing, according to NBC News. Also in the courtroom were several victims and families of victims dabbing tears from their eyes as the sentence was read. Among them were the parents of 8-year-old Martin Richard, one of the four people killed because of Tsarnaev evil acts. They remained stoic throughout the sentencing.
The jury’s deliberations went on over the course of three days, and the decision was made and read in court on Friday, May 15.
Dzhokhar Found Guilty On All 30 Charges
The sentencing for Dzhokhar is one of the final steps in putting the horrific Boston Marathon bombing in the past. It was on April 8 that Dzhokhar was found guilty of 30 charges, including bombing in a public place, weapons of mass destruction, possession of a firearm in a crime that resulted in death, and many others.
Of those 30 charges, 17 came with the possibility of the death penalty as a sentencing, which is what led Dzhokhar to this sentencing. While everyone seems to have a different opinion on the harsh reality of the death penalty, a jury managed to make a decision on whether or not he should live in just over 16 hours of deliberations.
As always, our thoughts remain with the victims, their friends, family members, and the people of Boston during this very difficult time. Hopefully, they all find the peace of mind they all deserve with the jury’s decision.
