Ever since Nina Dobrev confirmed she’d be leaving ‘The Vampire Diaries’ at the end of its current season, we’ve been wondering how her character would exit the series. Thanks to a new interview with executive producer Julie Plec, we may have our answer.
Say it isn’t so! Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) exit from The Vampire Diaries might be a tragic one, according to executive producer Julie Plec, who recently opened up about the season finale, airing on May 14. In a new interview, Julie revealed some clues about Elena’s ending, saying that she’s “happy” with the choice they made, but also worried about whether everyone will agree. Gulp.
Elena Dying ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season Finale? — Julie Plec Speaks Out
When asked if Elena will die in the season finale, Julie replied with a mysterious answer. “I don’t know how to answer that without either hinting a yes or hinting a no. I’ll just say that we’re very happy with the choice we made about how to handle her character’s departure. We’ll see if everyone agrees,” she told E! News.
Michael Trevino, who is also exiting the series, told E! News that no matter if Elena lives or dies, her exit will be a permanent one. His own exit, on the other hand, won’t be so permanent.
“It’s an end note for sure,” Michael told E! News. “It’s a big period at the end of the sentence, if you will. It’s beautiful. As we know, Nina Dobrev is leaving our show so we put a stamp of an ending there for our beloved Elena.”
Michael also said that even if fans are sad about Nina leaving the series, they’ll be satisfied with how her story wraps.
“They did a beautiful job with her send off,” he said. “I wouldn’t necessarily call it a cliffhanger, but it definitely is a, ‘where do we go from here?’ You’re going to be asking yourself, what is season seven going to be about? It’s mysterious in a way.”
