Parents Died Saving Baby From Tornado After It Tore Apart Their Arkansas Home
The Mooneyhans were home on May 10 when a tornado touched down in their trailer park and ripped apart their home, according to the Associated Press. Sadly, both Melissa and Michael died, but were still able to find the strength during their final moments to shield their baby from the falling debris.
The trailer “was just picked up and flipped over,” said Howard County Coroner John Gray, who also stated that the family’s home looked “like it had exploded.” He went on to tell the outlet, that it was “a miracle that little girl survived.” A miracle indeed, thanks to her loving parents.
He continued to say, “That poor little girl is never going to know them. But she’s young enough that she’ll never remember what happened.” How horrible.
Melissa’s Cousin Revealed: ‘That Baby Was Their Life’
The Mooneyhans’ neighbor Jim Ewert told Arkansas Online that he was there when rescuers came found the couple. He stated that their daughter was situated between her parents’ lifeless bodies. Remarkably, the child was unscathed and was cleared after only spending a few hours in the hospital.
Polly McCammack, who is Melissa’s third cousin told the press, “That baby was definitely their life. They considered her their greatest blessing. You couldn’t find two parents who loved a child more. She’s going to grow up knowing family and knowing love.” So heartbreaking.
