‘The Vampire Diaries’ Finale Promo: Saying Goodbye To Elena Gilbert
ICYMI and are for some reason still reading, Elena (Nina Dobrev) was fatally injured at Jo and Alaric’s wedding when Kai showed up and stabbed Jo. (Did you get all that?) This of course happened right after Damon (Ian Somerhalder) had told her that he will take the cure, just to spend his life with her. Talk about bad timing! Anyway, the promo gets pretty intense.
It starts with the series premiere when we all met Elena Gilbert. From there it takes us through her journey: writing in her journal, falling for Stefan, finding out he was a vampire, falling for Damon (and kissing him the rain!), deciding to be with him, and of course, hugging and crying with her best friends: Bonnie (Kat Graham), Caroline (Candice Accola), Tyler (Michael Trevino) and even Jeremy (Steven McQueen). (Sorry Matt, you may have been Elena’s oldest friend, but you somehow didn’t make the cut.)
The words across the screen read: Say goodbye before it’s too late.
At the end of the montage, we head back to realtime and Elena is lying on the ground at the church — a heartbroken Damon kissing her forehead, and Caroline and Stefan standing over them, terrified. In the background we hear Elena, saying the quote she said to Damon in this season’s premiere: “There’s nothing more I could ever want than for it to last forever, but it can’t.”
