We’re getting down to the wire on Season 8 of ‘The Voice,’ and after the show’s May 5 episode…only five contestants remain. Read our full recap to find out who will be heading to the semifinals!
Only one singer was eliminated on this week’s episode of The Voice, but with so much talent left in the competition at this point, it definitely wasn’t an easy vote for America! On May 5, contestants from past seasons returned to perform, and five singers were revealed to be heading to next week’s semifinals after America’s vote and Instant Twitter Save. Check out our recap to get the scoop on everything that went down!
‘The Voice’ Top 5 Revealed: Kimberly Nichole Sent Home
To start things off, Season 5 finalist Jacquie Lee returned to The Voice stage to perform her new single “Tears Fall,” which was written by Sia! “I recorded it a while ago and then decided to put it on the EP,” the teen singer told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “We are giving it a go because it’s so relatable for people and I think it’s beautiful because it’s empowering and so real! It’s just about embracing the every day struggle that life throws at you, and that has been my life ever since I left The Voice.”
Getting right into the important matter at hand, host Carson Daly brought the top six on stage, and revealed the first artist to be safe — Sawyer Fredericks from Pharrell‘s team! Considering both Sawyer’s songs from Monday night made the Top 10 on iTunes…this is definitely not a surprise!
Up next, Season 3 contestant Avery Wilson hit the stage to debut his brand new single “If I Have To.” It’s so amazing to see the show’s alumni having so much success!
Carson then announced that Blake Shelton artist Meghan Linsey will be moving on to the semifinals. The country coach lost two singers last week, so it was clearly a huge relief for him to have Meghan absolutely KILL it on Monday to earn the votes to guarantee she’s moving on. It was definitely a week of redemption for Team Blake!
Throwing things all the way back to Season 1, Vicci Martinez came back to The Voice to sing her new song “Bad News Breaker.” Can you believe it’s been four years since this show took off?!
Next, Pharrell’s final remaining contender, Koryn Hawthorne, was announced safe, meaning the “Happy” singer will have both his artists competing in the Top 5 — and deservedly so!
Craig Wayne Boyd, who won season 7 of the show, also returned to perform his single “I’m Still Here,” and it was so amazing. Ah, there’s that country sound we so missed this week now that Corey Kent White has been eliminated!
And onto more results! Carson revealed that Joshua Davis, Adam Levine‘s final artist, will be moving on. Very exciting for the class-act, family man, but unfortunately this also means that Christina Aguilera‘s final two singers, India Carney and Kimberly Nichole, have to face off against each other to win America’s Instant Save and land that final spot!
India was up first, and 100% gave it her all, singing Pink’s hit “Perfect.” The performance progressed flawlessly, starting slow and understated, leading up to the powerhouse vocals we’ve grown to know and love from India. Don’t forget — it was just last week she was in this same position, and saved by America in the closest vote ever, so it had to be a nerve-racking moment!
Kimberly did her thing next, positively slaying her rendition of “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes. WOW, these two girls are REALLY making this a tough decision for America.
And after America’s Instant Save vote on Twitter, the artist moving on to next week is… India Carney!
That means that next week, Pharrell will move on with 2 artists, while Christina, Adam and Blake will each have one.
HollywoodLifers, we have to know — do you agree with tonight’s decision? Who are you rooting for to win it all?
