On the two-hour special of ’19 Kids & Counting’, we finally got to see all that went down during baby Israel Dillard’s arrival into the world.
On the May 5 special episode of 19 Kids & Counting, it was all about Baby Dilly or should we say — Israel David Dillard! Jill Duggar not only delivered her first son, but she was in labor for over 70 hours!
’19 Kids & Counting’ Recap: Jill Prepares For Baby Dilly’s Arrival
The beginning of the two hour special was all about Baby Dilly prep. Jill gives her two midwives a tour of her home, which is really important for them to know where all the necessary household items are, because Jill plans on having the baby at home in a birth pool. Derick insists he really wants to help in the delivery of their baby, “I want to be there to catch.” Oh Derick!
Jill and Derick decide to spend some quality time with Derick’s mom and all three go and get a spa pedicure. Yes, Derick as well! It was hilarious to see how much Derick really enjoyed his foot spa day with his two girls.
Tonight, Baby Dilly’s shower was thrown by their family and friends, which included close to 50 people. Boys were able to come to the shower as well, but they only thing they cared about was all the food.
While Jill and Derick are getting prepared, Michelle and Jim Bob decide to help out and look for Josie’s old crib to pass down to Baby Dilly. Jim Bob tells the camera, “I’m sure if Michelle gets pregnant again, they’ll give the crib back.” That would be one big baby bombshell Jim Bob! Michelle and Jim find the crib and bring it and Josie over to Jill and Derick’s house to help put it together.
Michelle decides to teach the young girls some baby basics in order to prepare for Baby Dilly. She uses dolls to show them how to feed, change the diapers and how to burp the baby.
Later on in the episode, Michelle thinks it would be a great idea to sit down with Jill and discuss all the questions she has in regards to having her first baby. Michelle tells Jill to put aside all of the things she knows as a midwife and just let the baby come on his own.
Derick Shows Jill Pistol Pete & Celebrates His Birthday
Derick wanted to show Jill his history with Oklahoma State University, mainly his days as the school mascot called “Pistol Pete.” He was the school’s leading mascot just like his late father, which meant a great deal to him. The costume itself is a cowboy, chaps and all, with a giant mascot head. Derick really enjoyed being Pistol Pete and was high-fiving all the fans during the game.
It got a bit emotional when the Duggars came together to celebrate Derick’s birthday, but there was also some fun times. First, Jim Bob gave him the most hilarious gifts, a diaper tool box and a onesie that came with instructions. He enlisted the help of the little girls to wrap Derick’s gifts, which surprisingly went well. Second, the Duggars and Derick’s mom decide to help decorate Baby Dilly’s nursery and it came out really nice. After the nursery was finished, the family head into the living room to give Derick his gifts. Aside from the fun gag gifts from Jim Bob, Derick’s mother gave him the best gift of all — a handwritten letter from his late father. It was so touching when Derick read his father’s letter aloud, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
Jill’s Water Finally Breaks
At 3am, Jill’s water officially breaks. Her and Derick decide not to call anyone just yet, because they have time. And time they did have, because Jill wound up being in labor for 70 plus hours. When she first hit the 20 hour mark, they called for the birth team to come in to help. When it got to be 48 hours into labor, Jill noticed a sign of distress from the baby. They all think it’s best to head to the hospital to make sure there’s no emergency.
At the hospital the doctor told Jill the baby is fine and they will let nature continue to take its course. After 60 hours, Jill decided to get an epidural to help ease the pain of labor. Thankfully Derick was there for her every step of the way. Then the doctor came back into the room to check up on Jill, but noticed that Baby Dilly had breached and that they would need to do an emergency Caesarean section. So scary!
Derick, his mom, and Michelle were all there to witness the birth of Baby Dilly during Jill’s c-section on April 6, and little Israel was born weighing a strong 9lbs and 10 ounces. A few days later, Jill was cleared to leave the hospital with her new baby. Before the happy family went home, they made a quick stop at the Duggar home to introduce Israel to his large family. It was the perfect ending to tonight’s special!
HollywoodLifers — are you surprised Jill’s labor lasted that long? Do you think she’s going to have a second child in the near future?
