‘Once Upon A Time’ is officially 50 shades of CRAZY! Lily and Maleficent finally came face-to-face, and The Author just changed everything.
Once Upon A Time is gearing up for an insane season four finale. On the May 3 episode, Regina (Lana Parilla) had a revelation about her happy ending, Cora (Barbara Hershey) returned (in flashbacks), Lily (Agnes Bruckner) and Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten) bonded and Rumple (Robert Carlyle) and The Author (Patrick Fischler) altered the course of the show as we know it.
‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: Welcome Home
Regina and Robin were moping over Zelena’s big pregnancy reveal. As much as she tried, Regina’s disgust was written all over her face. Robin still believed they could get their happy ending, even with Zelena and the baby. Regina knew the truth of that matter. Zelena and Robin would be connected in a way her and Robin never could be.
Emma reunited with Henry and Hook but still gave her parents the big ignore. Maleficent patiently waited for Lily. When they met, it was a pretty sweet moment. Meanwhile, Regina locked Zelena away in a cell. Zelena thought she was safe from Regina’s wrath because of her baby. Girl, Regina is clever. Watch yourself.
‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: Like Mother, Like Daughter
Hook made sure to tell Rumple that Emma didn’t turn full-on evil after all. This wasn’t exactly the best news for Rumple or The Author. The ink to write his happy ending had to be made up of Emma’s dark blood. If not, no villain could get their happy ending.
Rumple didn’t have time to lose, either. His heart was turning into what looked like a piece of burnt toast. But the Dark One can’t die, right? Right. But Rumple could. That didn’t stop Regina from taking the quill and The Author. Regina showed the page of her with Robin. The Author was shocked. The page was experimental writing for another book. WHAT?! He was ready to write Regina’s happy ending. All he needed was the ink.
Over at the diner, Maleficent and Lily had their first lunch together. Lily only wanted to chat about how to get revenge on Snow and Charming. Surprisingly, Maleficent didn’t want to waste her time on vengeance. Lily was NOT about that life.
Regina found Lily after she’d run off from Maleficent. Regina tried to persuade her to focus on what she deserved. Some of that rage inside of her was misplaced because it belonged to Emma. Regina didn’t have time to waste on her quest — she stole Lily’s blood. That really riled Lily up.
Yep, she turned into a dragon. Like mother, like daughter.
‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: Forgiveness
Emma and Hook shared a sweet moment by the docks. Hook tried to get Emma to understand her parents reasoning for doing what they did all those years ago. I love the fact that Hook is Emma’s voice of reason. These two never cease to amaze me. I need them to have their happiness.
Maleficent, Snow and Charming were riding around when they came across Dragon Lily. Maleficent ran after her even though Lily was breathing fire and everything. Snow tried to save Maleficent from the FIRE but just hit her head. Oh, Snow. Thankfully, Emma healed her up really quick. She forgave Snow for everything. Emma realized cutting her parents out of her life just made her miserable. Yeah, Emma has been looking absolutely terrible lately.
Maleficent found Lily after she’d calmed down a bit. “I thought you’d be this scary dragon bitch. But you’re just this real person, and you’re so freaking open it kills me,” Lily said. This is real talk, dragon lady style.
‘Once Upon A Time’ Recap: WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!
Regina went to Zelena with The Author ready to write her happy ending. She told Zelena that The Author was going to write her out of the story forever. That’s when Zelena went for the jugular: She brought up mom.
This was a touchy subject for Regina. In flashbacks, Cora returned to try and help Regina find love. After a failed attempt, Regina was DONE. She decided to drink a potion where she could NEVER get pregnant so she could keep Cora from ever having a claim to the throne. Well, this was just a bad decision overall. Cora really was trying to help Regina. “The only one standing in the way of your happiness is you,” Cora told her daughter as she left.
The ink was drying, and Regina had to make a decision. She opted to do nothing. Um, why couldn’t she just have The Author write that she could get pregnant? Robin wasn’t her happy ending. Regina’s happy ending was her finally feeling at home with the world. The Author wasn’t going to let Regina’s heroic decision stick. He went straight to Rumple.
It was time the villains finally won. The Author started writing, changing everyone’s fate.
