Blake must be dethroned! Even though he has the most competitors remaining on the show, the country star does not deserve to win ‘The Voice’ AGAIN this season — there are too many good singers on other teams!
In just a few weeks, we’ll find out the winner of Season 8 of The Voice — and it’s time for Christina Aguilera, 34, or Pharrell, 42, to take home their first title! But for some reason, America seems to once again be favoring Blake Shelton’s, 38, team, even though they’re not the strongest singers. The Blake Shelton effect must END!
‘The Voice’ Season 8 Winner: Blake Shelton Doesn’t Deserve The Title Again
Don’t get me wrong, Blake’s contestants, Hannah Kirby, Meghan Linsey and Corey Kent White are all amazing performers and deserve recognition, however, after several seasons of Team Blake contestants making it farther than they should…it’s getting a little old.
Corey is, of course, adorable and has an amazing country sound — he could definitely go far in his genre. But to other vocalists on the show, he’s simply average, and seems to mostly be getting votes based on the cute-boy, country factor. Hannah has had a tough time throughout this competition (being nearly eliminated in both the Knockout and Battle rounds before getting saved by another coach), but is unfortunately forgettable week after week, always falling toward the middle of the pack rather than standing out.
Blake’s last contestant, Meghan, is constantly improving and, of his three finalists, is the one I would be okay with making the show’s final episode, but I still don’t think she has what it takes to win it all compared to singers on other teams.
Meanwhile, Pharrell is currently coaching one of the most unique and innovative artists to ever appear on the show, Sawyer Fredericks, and has made a powerhouse out of dark horse Koryn Hawthorne, who has given two flawless performances in a row. Christina’s contestants, Kimberly Nichole and India Carney, have been solid since the very beginning of the season, and consistently give amazing renditions of songs of varying genres.
I will give Blake this — his team does deserve to beat longtime show nemesis, Adam Levine’s, final singer, Joshua Davis, who impressed me throughout the Battle and Knockout rounds, but has been boring and forgettable during the Live Playoffs.
‘The Voice’: Blake Shelton’s Team Members Have Gone Too Far In The Past, Too
This isn’t the first season Blake has had contestants go farther than they should, either! In fact, it was just last year in Season 7 that his artist, Craig Wayne Boyd, won the entire show, despite going up against three Team Adam members in the finals. Not to take anything away from Craig’s accomplishments, but I thought for sure Adam’s team member, Matt McAndrew, was going to take it all last year, and was shocked at America’s vote in the finale.
It happened in Season 6, too. Although Blake didn’t win the show that season (that honor went to Usher and his singer Joshua Kaufman), his contestant Jake Worthington was named runner-up, and I distinctly remember thinking for weeks that he should’ve been the one to go home. Sorry, but he was certainly not a finale-worthy singer.
It’s definitely obvious that there’s a major country music fan base tuning into and voting on The Voice, which is why Corey’s making a run this season, just like Craig and Jake did in season’s past (don’t forget that Blake also won with country artists Cassadee Pope and Danielle Bradbery in Seasons 3 and 4).
I’m a HUGE country music fan — but I’m over country fans just voting for contestants just because they’re on Blake’s team! The best singers are getting eliminated TOO early, and if a Team Blake member takes the place of Kimberly, India, Sawyer or Koryn during the April 28 Top 8 elimination…I’m not going to be happy about it!
Do you agree with me, HollywoodLifers? Who do you want to see go home from the Top 8…and who should win it all?
