The report from TMZ claimed that Joni was not responsive to anything at all, and that documents said she’s “so impaired as to be incapable of being assessed.”
According to Joni’s official website, however, she is “not in a coma.” The statement says:
Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital – but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts. You may add your well wishes for her at the website.
The singer’s close friend, Leslie Morris, is reportedly taking action to obtain a conservatorship over Joni, and has already filed legal documents to do so, TMZ reported. Leslie, who was reportedly been close with Joni for 44 years, allegedly claimed that the singer had no close family that would step up to the role.
HollywoodLife.com has reached out to Joni’s rep for comment.
Joni is one of the most influential and legendary singers of all time, paving way for other great female singer-songwriters to follow in her footsteps. Her huge hits such as “Big Yellow Taxi” and “Woodstock” defined a generation, and she sure left her mark on music — and we hope she continues to do so.
Our thoughts go out to Joni as we pray she makes a recovery.
