Brian Williams Investigation: Anchor Lied 11 Times About Reporting
In case you missed it, Brian claimed that he was onboard a military helicopter at the start of the Iraq War which had been damaged by rocket fire. It turned out to be a fabricated story and Brian admitted to lying and apologized in February.
Another instance in question is Brian’s reporting on his experiences covering Israel’s military action against Hezbollah in Lebanon in 2006, according to the new report.
Brian talked about his experience during an interview with a student-run television station at Fairfield University in Connecticut in 2007. He said he saw rockets passing “just beneath” the Israel helicopter in which he was traveling, however, the story sounded a bit different when he talked about it in an NBC News blog a year earlier.
Brian, who has been a seasoned anchor on NBC News for 22 years, was suspended as Managing Editor and Anchor of NBC Nightly News for six months in February. His suspension came after he revealed that he embellished some details regarding the story he reported about the Iraq war.
Below is the statement NBC released:
While on Nightly News on Friday, January 30, 2015, Brian misrepresented events which occurred while he was covering the Iraq War in 2003. It then became clear that on other occasions Brian had done the same while telling that story in other venues. This was wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in Brian’s position.
