Rest in peace, McDreamy! As you know by now, Patrick Dempsey (and his character) have officially left Seattle Grey’s in a pretty definitive sense. So, are there plans to replace him? And with who?
You’re obviously still sobbing over that Grey’s Anatomy shocker. Spoiler alert: On the April 23 episode of the long running medical series, we lost our beloved McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey) in a devastating car accident. While we continue to mourn the best looking doctor around, there are definitely a ton of questions. For starters who will replace Patrick? We’ve got the EXCLUSIVE scoop!
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Replacing Derek Shepherd?
Parting is such sweet sorrow, McDreamy.
There will certainly be a void on Grey’s now that Derek Shepherd is no more, and while the doc can never be truly replaced, there are plans to try.
“Casting agencies have known for three weeks that he was gone and they are actively looking for the next person to replace him,” a source revealed EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com. “They are waiting to get someone young and fresh faced for next season. They want multiple people to fill the void. No one has been picked yet, they still have plenty of time to figure it all out.”
Fans Freak Out Over Derek’s Death
While we wait with baited breath to see whether they will in fact find a Derek replacement, series creator Shonda Rhimes has already released a statement to our sister site TV Line, letting fans know that the doc will not be forgotten.
“Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character — for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), for me and for the fans,” Shonda said. “I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our ‘McDreamy.’ Patrick Dempsey’s performance shaped Derek in a way that I know we both hope became a meaningful example — happy, sad, romantic, painful and always true — of what young women should demand from modern love. His loss will be felt by all. Now, Meredith and the entire Grey’s Anatomyfamily are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life. The possibilities for what may come are endless. As Ellis Grey would say: the carousel never stops turning.”
Are you upset that McDreamy will be no more? Do you hope they replace him?
